    ヒマラヤ遊牧山岳民族から入手。ラマ僧による手描き曼荼羅
    右手は大地を押し、左手は瞑想の印相を示す。
    懺悔して如来の御名を唱えることにより、信者の御布施を私物化した罪が浄められる。
    苦悩する衆生を救うためにこの世に出現し、救いの手を差し伸べ、悪を地に追いやる。
    大円鏡智を表す。金剛界の五智如来の一つ。全知全能/降魔印

    釈迦の父シュッドーダナ・ゴータムは、釈迦族カピラ城の王で、母である妃摩耶夫人は釈迦族のデーヴァダハ城の姫で、王の従妹にあたります。
    結婚の20数年後のある夜、城象が右脇から体内に入る夢を見て摩耶は懐妊します。
    臨月近くなって妃は国の習慣に従って、生家に帰る途中にルンビニ園で休息し、折からの春の陽は麗らかで、アショカの花は麗しく咲き匂っていたので、右手を上げて園枝を手折ろうとしました。
    その刹那さに王子を産み、天地の神々は喜びの声で母子を寿ぎました。
    時に4月8日でした。
    父シュッドーダナ・ゴータム王は一切の願いが成就したという意味のシッダルタ「悉達多」と王子に命名しました。
    摩耶夫人は間もなく世を去り、太子は夫人の妹マハプラジャパティによって養育され、7歳から文武の道を学びます。
    生まれて間もなく母に別れ、生き物の噛み合う様を見たり、人生の苦悩を感じ始めます。
    太子19歳のとき、母摩耶デビの兄デーヴァダハ城王スプラブッダの娘ヨショーダラ(従妹)と結婚します。
    太子は宮殿にて歌舞管弦の生活を楽しみながらも、人は病み、老い、死から逃れることが出来ないことに悩ます日々が続きます。
    太子29歳の時、一子ラフラが生まれたときに宮殿を出て出家の身となります。
    5人の仲間と供にしてきた6年間の苦行の後、疲れ果てた太子は一人になりました。
    そこにスジャーターという娘から乳粥を貰って健康を回復して菩提樹の下に座り命を懸けて血も固まれよ、肉も爛れよ、骨も腐れよ悟りを開くまでは我はこの座を立たずと最後の苦行に入りました。
    苦行の末、悟りを開き天を仰いだのが明けの明星で、太子35歳の12月8日の明け方でした。

    これより太子は各地へ教化の行脚に出かけ、仏陀、無上覚者、如来、釈迦牟尼、世尊などと呼ばれるようになりました。
    伝道の旅の途中で鍛冶屋のチュンダの供養物で食中毒にかかり、痛みを押してクシナガールまで行きます。
    裟羅の大木の下に横たわり、懇切に7人の弟子たちを教戒し最期の刹那まで教えを説いて、世間の大導師たる仏としての仕事を成し遂げ、静かに涅槃に入りました。
    時に釈尊80歳、伝道を始めて45年目でした。
    遺体は火葬。
